An RTL Design Engineer (RTL – Register Transfer Level) plays a crucial role in the development of digital circuits and systems. They focus on creating efficient and optimized RTL code for complex digital designs.
Duties & Responsibilities of RTL Design Engineer:
- RTL Coding: Collaborate with the design team to write RTL code using hardware description languages (such as Verilog or VHDL). This involves translating high-level design specifications into detailed RTL representations.
- Clock-Domain Crossing (CDC) Analysis: Address issues related to data synchronization across different clock domains.
- Micro-Architecture Design: Create micro-architecture diagrams for various functional blocks within the chip.
- Design Verification Collaboration: Work closely with verification engineers to validate the RTL design through simulation and other verification methodologies.
- Power Reduction Techniques: Implement power-saving techniques at the RTL level.
- Floorplanning: Contribute to floorplanning efforts to achieve optimal chip layout.
Qualifications:
- Education: A relevant degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in hardware description languages (Verilog and VHDL).
- Familiarity with synthesis tools and static timing analysis.
- Knowledge of mixed-signal concepts.
- Experience with scripting languages (such as Tcl).
- UNIX shell familiarity.
- Experience:
- Know Computer architecture, micro-architecture, and VLSI design.
- Understanding of RTL verification flow (e.g., OVM, assertions).
- Knowledge of top chip integration is a plus.
- Synthesis, Formal Verification, and STA are a plus.
